Prophecy is the eighth principle from my book The Posture Principle: A practical guide to embracing your true calling. As always in this blog series, I will share one quote and answer three questions. You can catch up with the first seven in the previous blogs. I hope you are led to reflect as you read.
‘Who does not want to hear what the Father is saying to us more clearly? Who does not want to tell someone else by the Spirit, how they are seen in heaven?’ Martina Davis – The Posture Principle: A practical guide to embracing your true calling.
Why have you included Prophecy as a principle? I have boldly removed my initial blog on this principle, published in March, because I realised that I wrote it from a rather dry teaching perspective, rather than as it should be in relation to my book. You see, prophecy is simply spiritually hearing what our Father is saying and seeing what He is doing; we hear and see best in the Spirit by cultivating a close, intimate, relationship with God. What we value most determines our posture in life – and that is what my book is about. We give attention to what we value. That forms our spiritual backbone. Therefore, hearing from our Father God and seeing in the Spirit what He is up to, is a crucial vertebra in that spine.
How do I know whether what I am hearing and seeing in the Spirit is God? As I have said, this is not a teaching module. We can train ourselves/be trained in this subject. Experience will grow us. Today, the most important point to mention is that as we grow to know the Father, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit (the Trinity), and as we spend time in friendship with Him, listening, reading His Word, experiencing how He works, looking at His promises and the many prophecies already in the Bible, we will begin to recognise His voice, and see His hand.
Can we hear God’s heart for other people? Absolutely! It is pure delight to be able to encourage someone with His heart of love specifically for them. It is also helpful to them when we pass on something we have heard or seen, which happens to bring them confirmation on a matter. In the Bible there is a time when God speaks to a man called Ananias (Acts 9:10-19). Ananias is to take a specific message to a man called Saul (later called Paul – the Apostle) – who has been struck blind during an encounter with the risen Lord Jesus. The message he gives Saul not only commissions him, but also heals him of blindness and fills him with the Holy Spirit.
God created us to dwell with Him in relationship, but also to encourage, build up, and strengthen one another. Let us do that willingly and in joy! Martina.
