Savour the journey. The journey is preparation, and it is crucial. Without it, you will not be equipped for where you are heading. Sometimes we do not realise we are being prepared. Learn to take note of what God is doing. Preparation, and how we understand it, is the sixth principle in my book The Posture Principle: A practical guide to embracing your true calling. You can catch up with the previous blogs in this series, each designed to be short just to get us thinking. As usual in each blog, I share one quote, and answer three questions.
‘Preparation is an adventure that brings us ever closer to God.’ Martina Davis, The Posture Principle.
How does preparation bring us closer to God? When we understand that God has a purpose for each of us, and we realise we have potential, then we begin to ask Him about it. He sets us off on a journey, and the way is found by learning to come close to Him, to start to live in His Presence, learning to listen and to follow His directions. Words begin to leap from the pages of the Bible as we read, or we notice specific things in our everyday lives that speak to us about our journey. We begin a deeper friendship with God.
Why is preparation an adventure? We often believe the adventure will only begin when we get to the end point of the journey. Our mindset needs shifting to understand that the whole journey is a God-adventure. Our spiritual and physical eyes need opening to see that however hard the events and encounters, or the inner transformation and the temptations on the journey might be, when we journey with God we can say that His power overcomes in us, and around us. We can watch how He breaks through for us and these can be major strengthening points in us. I use my journal to record these things, so that when I read back, I can marvel!
What does God want to see? Just as He led the Israelites round and around in the desert by the long way, He does with us until He sees character transformation. Our character needs to rise to the challenge and purpose He has created us for. We will be ill-equipped if we stay exactly where we are without growing. We need to mature to the level we are called to. Jesus told us that He will never put anything too heavy or ill-fitting on our shoulders, rather He will equip us with what we need, and show us how to be who He calls us to be. Sometimes we take on too heavy a load, but the key is to go at His pace, not our own.
Happy travelling! Martina.
