Twelve Principles: No.4 – Provision

What do you believe about Provision? This is the fourth spiritual vertebra, or principle, that I describe in my book The Posture Principle: A practical guide to embracing your true calling. These spiritual vertebrae form our ‘backbone’ – how we believe, live and carry out our calling as children of God. As always, I will share a quote and answer three questions. My blogs are meant to help you to reflect. You can use my Books to follow along with them, if you wish.

‘Just as developing a real relationship takes time and effort, so we grow a dependence on a loving Father.’

Can I trust God to provide for me? As you grow in your friendship with God, so you will come to understand Him and trust Him. He created us. He wants to provide for us. His heart is for us. You can trust Him! In the Bible, Jesus specifically tells us not to worry; if He provides for the sparrows and clothes the flowers of the field, He will certainly provide for us. He tells us to ask Him for the things we need, and we will receive. He loves to be asked. There are times along our journey as a family, when I have thought that a meal, or the loaf of bread, was not enough for everyone. At that point, when I observe how little there seems to be, I turn my face and heart to God, and then continue preparing and serving up. I can say I have seen miracles in that area when God has stretched it further than we needed! There are other times, when I have lost something, and I’ve reminded myself to ask the Holy Spirit to show me where it is – then my eyes seem to focus on the precise location, or I have had a thought as to where it was to be found! He loves simple, childlike trust. It doesn’t have to be a massive prayer – it can be a simple glance toward Him. He always solves things.

How do I build my trust in God? By doing what I have just explained. Experience of His provision will build your trust. He is faithful. At the same time, build up what you know about Him by keeping Scripture verses at hand that speak of His faithfulness, heart as a loving Father, provision, words encouraging us to ask, promises that He gives beyond measure. Don’t stop there! Build your friendship with Him by sitting silently in His presence, praising Him, speaking to Him during the day, turning your gaze toward Him – even momentarily as I used to do when our children were little. Don’t forget – Jesus said that He has come to give us abundant life.

What about the difficult times? God promises that He will never leave us nor let us go. He is always present with us. I have had my quota of tough times and so I write to you in yours. Understanding who God really is means you will come to know Him as a true Father who loves you as His son or daughter. The heart of a true Father wants to give what is good to His children, and wants them to come to Him and ask Him for it. We can trust Him. Even when times are tough, or especially when times are tough – we know that He will come through for us. Because we live in the world, there will be difficulties. Spend time looking at the verses in Scripture that speak about how much He loves us, how we can come close to Him, and how Jesus died for us on the cross so that we can approach Him boldly! He provided the greatest thing for us – the ability to come straight into His presence, because we are made right with Him when we know and receive Jesus as our Saviour. And so you can know that you stand before Him without shame or condemnation, and can ask for what you need. Trust that, however it looks at the time, He will fight on our behalf. We need only to stand still in Him.

I hope this helps. Blessings on your journey, Martina.
