Twelve Principles: No.3 – Potential

Our heart posture can move God’s heart way beyond the horizon that we see. That is Potential in The Posture Principle: A practical guide to embracing your true calling. This third principle, when viewed from a healthy perspective with the understanding of a God who loves us and has good purposes for us, carries a powerful dynamic. As always, I will share a quote and answer three questions. You can use my Book to follow along with this blog series if you wish.

‘… potential is not simply possibility. I see it as a real and raw potency within, which if developed and allowed to mature will powerfully touch those around us and into the future. Possibility says potential will be released.’

Why do you say Potential is so powerful? Jesus lives inside us by His Holy Spirit when we give our lives to Him. This means that His ‘resurrection power’ lives within us. Realising this changes everything! Things that died within us come alive. Seeds that have been planted in us are watered, have His face shine on them, and grow to maturity as we spend time with Him. There are gifts and miracles inside us waiting to be revealed. These can change people’s lives, and even nations. Faith is what nurtures this potential, put together with action steps. What are you hearing, as you spend time with Jesus? Write it down. As I describe in my book, potential needs growing and careful handling in order to be used maturely.

What is one action step I can take when I hear a direction in which to move? List a few things that would help you move in that direction. Then consider the key one or two which will help you right now. Set these specific actions in to your daily life, as habits to practice. Mark them into your diary, even just 10 minutes each per day. Regularity over time is what builds up rather than trying to achieve a lot in one day. Read the book ‘Atomic Habits’ by James Clear, which explains this process and will help you put it into practice! You can buy it on Amazon – and allocate ten minute slots per day to read through it!

How do YOU do this? I have a few habits these days I am needing to practice daily – marking them up as simply ten minutes for each, but knowing that I can extend the time on any one of them if I wish. Over time, these will build my skill – or rather, in some cases like piano playing, rebuild! When I began, again, to write my blog series after and during our house move, I would time myself for ten minutes, writing throughout, stop, review the next day, then write for another ten minutes. Eventually I was able to give extended time to it. Currently, I am sketching something for ten minutes daily. I carry a sketchbook and pencils. This is to rebuild my accuracy and skill. I also set myself two thirty minute slots a day, to practice contemplation – or quiet prayer. This I built from short times, as can you.

Find joy in this ‘practice’! Bless you – Martina.
