As this new series gets underway, let me remind you of my purpose: it is to bring us to have a healthy perspective of God so that we can live lives to the full, as Jesus promised us we would. That is my purpose in writing. In fact Purpose is the second principle in my book The Posture Principle: A practical guide to embracing your true calling. As always, I will share a quote and answer three questions.
‘What you do on purpose, moves you into, or away from, God’s purpose for your life… It is really very simple. Our purpose will always be a heart issue. Where is your heart?’
How can I find my purpose? You’ve taken the first step, once hope has ignited your spirit to see that all things are possible in God – and you have taken your place inside His heart. That was the purpose of the first principle, possibility! When you put your faith in Jesus, He lives in your heart, and you live in His. Thus, you can speak to Him at any moment. My favourite time is when I am just sitting in His presence, with a cup of coffee, my Bible and my journal, early in the morning. I listen to what He has to say, I write down what I may hear, and weigh these things in my heart. I walk and watch the sunrise, listening, talking with Him. I observe the ‘breadcrumb trail’ of my life, amongst other disciplines learned over my life.
What if I get it wrong? We have an incredibly committed, loving, and forgiving Father God. He is not going to condemn you for missing the path or slipping off it. In my second book, The Identity Key, one of the five false mindsets I write about is ‘punishment’. I give the example of inordinate fear of making a mistake in decision-making – something with which I once struggled. That is no good as it freezes any ability to act. Living our true identity means we understand that we get it wrong, and that God acts with loving discipline to help us back on to the way. Finding our purpose is a journey of discovery – but emerges out of our main purpose which is a life that brings glory to God.
What is inverted purpose? I explained in my last blog that there are two ways to see each principle. These are two mindsets – constructive or destructive. I use the term ‘inverted’ for the destructive mindset. If we have an ‘inverted purpose mindset’, then, that is choosing to believe that you don’t have a great purpose, that it will be something you hate to do or be, and that you are less than another human being. When we discover on becoming a believer in Christ that our place is within Him and He is within us, it changes everything! He is everywhere we are. Our lives are set apart to Him – and He has our best interests at heart! We are on earth to release His life into everywhere we go. And we are each equipped with gifts and abilities to do this in our individual way – isn’t that astonishing?
So go, begin your journey of discovery! You could let me know what happens in your comments. Till next time, Martina.
