Seven Strategies: No.3 – Beliefs

The third strategy, Beliefs, helps us set wise boundaries and make healthy decisions.

Our beliefs affect how we live. What we believe settles deep within us and motivates everything we do. Healthy beliefs bring strength, resilience and hope.

The Freedom Strategy, Martina Davis

What do you mean by ‘beliefs’? Those inner postures that direct what we think and do; our perspective. How we see is very important. That is why my life strapline is ‘changing the way we see’. Seeing in the dark is different to seeing in the light.

Why are my beliefs so important? Consider a point in your life when you’ve needed to make a crucial decision, or set a firm boundary. What guided you? How did that work out for you? If I were to believe that I had no value, for instance, I would act like it. With reference to the previous two strategy blogs, Boundaries and Decisions, the effect of that would be allowing outside influences to draw my boundaries and make my decisions. I’m not going to do that. I must choose. You and I have been made in the image of our Creator, which means we are highly valuable and valued.

Will knowing what I believe change my life? Change your perspective, the way you ‘see’, and you will find that your life changes. It is time to check your perspective. Take time to list what your inner attitude of heart is toward life, and check it regularly. I have written about this in my book, The Posture Principle, listing twelve principles and including application at the end of each. Our focus is important. It matters what we do, or don’t do.

Remember – we are all in this together. It isn’t a question of perfection, it is one of looking for the light and living in it, and then enjoying the journey. Blessings on your way!
